To continue our online magazine interview, Bright Ideas, we first took a moment to get to know Rick Sheninger.

Rick first took a moment to explain to us more about One to One Marketing and the services they offer. One to One Marketing is a Marketing Agency founded on the principles of the Platinum Rule: Treat others as they want to be treated. We help small businesses reach more prospects and close more sales using a solid Social Media strategy combined with a strong follow up system.

In this interview, we asked Rick to share his experiences in the Business to Business world to help enlighten fellow business people.

You start your day with: Working out

You end your day with: Spending time with family and friends

When a problem arises, you approach it by: Being head on, find out everything about the problem, brainstorm possible solutions, pick the one that seems like it would be most effective, and then take action.

How do you promote your business? Explain your worst and best strategies you’ve implemented.

We promote using primarily LinkedIn, Facebook advertising and in-person Networking events and groups. We have not yet been successful using Google advertising or LinkedIn advertising, but are working to improve those results.

Which channels were the most effective in reaching your customers? Why?

The most effective channels so far have been LinkedIn and In-Person networking, because this provided the right audience, with the shortest amount of time to a face to face or phone/video meeting appointment, which helped to build rapport the quickest. Once rapport was/is established, it becomes much easier to have a conversation with them about their needs and how we may be able to help, whether through something we offer, or one of our referral partners.

Fighting against the clock is a constant battle. We all have 24 hours in a day, but there are some days that those 24 feel like 4.

What methods or strategies did you use to create value with your clients?

I constantly strive to lead with value, to provide useful ideas, strategies and tools that small businesses can implement and use right away to make a positive impact on their business.

What strategies were the most effective in retaining your customers? How?

Not so much a strategy, as a way of business, the way I have found most effective to retain customers is to build rapport, continue providing higher value than they expect, and stay in contact, not in a promotional way, but in a way that also provides solid value.

How did you create a competitive advantage in your industry?

In a world filled with distractions and overwhelm, we, as business owners, have to change the way we communicate. I have always had the gift of writing, however, to write in a way that is engaging and compelling, especially with all of the “noise” surrounding us, is truly a way I’ve been able to set myself apart from the crowd.

What major challenges did you face? How did you solve them?

Richard Branson is one, because he is actually trying to make a positive impact on the planet and the world.
